About us

Riffel is a family winery in Germany's famous winegrowing area Rheinhessen. Located at the confluence of the Rhein and Nahe rivers in Bingen am Rhein, the winery has been run by Carolin and Erik Riffel since 2005.

Riffel cultivates wine in the fourth generation, with Erik Riffel becoming cellar master in 1991 after his training as a vintner. The winery follows organic principles since 2009 and converted to biodynamic viticulture in 2012.

Riffel owns 18 hectares of vineyards and produce Riesling, Silvaner and Burgunder in top sites: the Grand Cru vineyards Scharlachberg and Kirchberg, Rosengarten, Osterberg and Bubenstück. Quartzite soils lend the wines a unique character with an intense minerality.

Riffel has been awarded the German Winery Prize 2018 and is member of Maxime Herkunft Rheinhessen, the union of the region's best wine makers. All wines are vegan certified.

Binger Scharlachberg Riesling dry

Our “flagship” stands for vibrant energy, powerful fruit and accurately reflects its warm, very sunny location. Pure aromas of ripe fruits such as apricot, peach, mirabelle plum and some mango in combination with wild flint will seduce every wine lover! This Riesling goes wonderfully with steamed fish or seafood, with white meat with light sauces or with Asian-spicy dishes.

Binger Kirchberg Riesling Kabinett

Our newcomer is a fine mineral Riesling with a vibrant sweet-acid interplay that creates brilliant excitement with aromas of peach, nectarine, orange blossom and cassis! The light-footed Kabinett goes particularly well with Asian dishes, as the slight residual sweetness often balances out the spiciness. In America, sommelier Mason Washington provides the appropriate stage for our new Kabinett under his own brand “LELIYG” (Live Everyday Like It's Your Glass).

Riffel Pet Nat dry

Sparkling, fresh, exciting – that’s our Pet Nat. It is a genuine Pétillant naturel made from Pinot blanc & Scheurebe grapes. Unfiltered and cloudy with yeast, it conjures up a taste experience that conjures up the image of a pear tree in the middle of a herb meadow in your mind's eye. Not only fantastic as an aperitif, but also excellent with Asian dishes.
